LE TOURMENT VERT translation: The Green Torment, in French.
WHAT IS LE TOURMENT VERT? An authentic, traditional handcrafted French absinthe. A spirit made from anise, fennel, wormwood and a blend of aromatic herbs including sage, rosemary and coriander.
LE TOURMENT VERT IS MADE AT: Distillerie Vinet Ege, located near Cognac City in France. Distillerie Vinet Ege is a small family owned artisanal distillery in operation since 1934. It specializes in high quality, handcrafted limited quantity products including fine cognacs such as Remy Martin XO. The Distillerie is owned by Bruno Delannoy and his wife Annie.
INGREDIENTS (as found in all traditional absinthes) Holy Trinity: Anise, Fennel & Grand Wormwood (Artmisia Absinthium). Plus, it contains aromatic herbs including Sage, Rosemary and Coriander. Le Tourment Vert contains the maximum dosage of thujone currently allowed by the United States Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
WILL IT MAKE YOU HALLUCINATE? We believe the effect of Le Tourment Vert is different for each individual. Try it and decide for yourself.
HOW IS IT MADE? THREE STEP PROCESS:
1) Cultivation and selection of Grand Wormwood and the herbal mix;
2) Maceration and distillation – Herbs are soaked and steeped with alcohol then distilled in dual ergrat alembic copper stills dating back to late 1800’s;
3) Add color – by second maceration of herbs, for smooth flavor and unique color, a derivation of naturally occurring chlorophyll found in the herbs.
HOW SHOULD IT BE SERVED?
1) Traditional – Pour one ounce in a glass. Place a slotted spoon with a sugar cube over the glass. Pour 3 ounces of cold water over the sugar, stir and enjoy.
2) Eastern European – Pour in a glass. Dip sugar cube in absinthe, place in spoon and light cube on fire. Extinguish, stir and enjoy.
3) Our Recommendation – Pour a shot over one or two cubes of ice.
4) A Shot – like many of the artists and writers in Bohemian France
WHY DOES IT CLOUD? Traditional absinthes cloud, or louche (French) when cold water mixes with the oils of anise, making them unique and mysterious.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES LE TOURMENT VERT FROM OTHER ABSINTHES?
1) Quality – Handcrafted in limited batches with the traditional French distillation process, in original French distillery.
2) Flavor – Unique combination of aromatic herbs and Grand Wormwood, from original Delannoy family recipe over 100 years old.
3) Contains Thujone – Maximum amount allowed by US TTB
4) Serving – Le Tourment Vert is smooth enough to serve as a shot, but also elegant and complex enough to serve traditionally with water or over ice.
Le Tourment Vert is legal in the US. TTB has given provisional approval to Le Tourment Vert, and a limited quantity has recently cleared US Customs.
The glass carafe style bottle is hand painted and individually numbered. Louche cloud symbolism includes the Tormentor (Devil’s face), two women with glass, a fairy and faces in the mist.
